On the most recent episode of The Wild West Extravaganza, I discussed the Graham Tewksbury Feud, and I thought you’d be interested in seeing two of its key participants: Edwin Tewksbury and Tom Graham.
Tom is on the left, and Ed is on his right. Ed’s mother was a Native American, and he was often mistaken for being black.
After years of violence, Tom Graham left the valley and settled in Tempe. Hell, he even got married to a local gal named Annie Melton. By all appearances, the feud was over, but I guess nobody asked Ed Tewksbury.
He and an associate caught Tom outside of Tempe in early August of 1892 and gunned Tom down.
Ed Tewksbury was arrested, tried, and found guilty, but he appealed. After the second trial, he was acquitted and, a few years later, would help Tom Horn in his attempts to track down Butch Cassidy and the Hole-In-The-Wall Gang.
As for Graham’s widow, Annie, she never recovered from the loss of her husband and would later die in an institution.
If you’ve missed out on the recent series on Tom Horn, there’s no better time than now to get caught up! You can listen to Part 1 HERE and learn about Tom Horn’s early life and his time in Arizona chasing the Apache. Part 2 can be found HERE, where we discuss Tom Horn’s involvement in the Graham Tewksbury feud, his employment as a Pinkerton Detective, and his time in Johnson County, Wyoming.
More to come next week!
Really enjoying the Tom Horn episodes! I recently purchased The Saga of Tom Horn" by Dean F. Krakel, so it's great to be able to read & listen to both. Been interested in Mr Horn, since seeing Steve McQueen play him in the movie. Thanks Josh 🤠👍
