Why subscribe?

Most of what people think they know about the Old West came from dime novels and John Wayne movies. Real Old West history is weirder, funnier, and a lot more complicated than the legends, and that’s what this newsletter is about.

Every issue covers a gunfighter, outlaw, lawman, or some forgotten figure or event from the frontier, drawn from real sources. Newspapers, court records, census data, eyewitness accounts, etc. When the evidence disagrees with the legend, I go with the evidence.

Free. Weekly-ish. The occasional dad joke.
